Adam Kwiatkowski has been appointed Ambassador of Poland to the Vatican and to the Order of Malta

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Zbigniew Rau, today handed his ambassadorial appointment to Adam Kwiatkowski, who will become the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to the Holy See and the Sovereign Order of Malta, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on its Twitter account.

Adam Kwiatkowski, is Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. He was born on 7 December 1972 in Warsaw. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw. In 1994-2006, he was a councillor in the Praga-Południe district, and in 2006-2011, a councillor in the Capital City of Warsaw. He chaired the Committee on Environmental Protection, sat on the Committee on Budget and Finance and the Committee on Social Aid and Counteracting Pathologies.

He was Director of the Strategy, Regional Development and Structural Funds Department in the Marshal’s Office of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship (2003), Deputy President of the Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Warsaw (2004-2006), advisor to Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński on EU funds and Secretary of the Monitoring Committee for EU funds (2006-2007).

In the Chancellery of President Lech Kaczyński, he was responsible, among others, for preparing presidential visits and meetings. He is one of the founders of the Social Movement for President Lech Kaczyński. In the 2011 elections, he was elected a Member of the Sejm. He sat on the Committee on Liaison with Poles Abroad and the Committee on Public Finance, and chaired the work of the Group for the Defence of Freedom of Speech.

On 7 August 2015, he was appointed by President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda as Secretary of State. From 7 August 2015 to 3 April 2017, he served as Head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland. He worked for many years with the Leon Koźmiński Academy, where he taught Entrepreneurship of Local Communities. He is a skier and traveller by avocation. In his free time he plays tennis and rides a bike with his wife Ula. He is the happy father of two sons, Szymon and Stefan, and a daughter, Kinga.

H.E. Adam Kwiatkowski will be the sixth representative of Poland to the Order of Malta since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990. Previous ambassadors were H.E. Henryk Kupiszewski (1990-1994); H.E. Stefan Frankiewicz (1995-2001); H.E. Hanna Suchocka (2001-2013); H.E. Piotr Nowina-Konopka (2013-2016); H.E. Janusz Kotański (2016-2022).
