Aid to Ukraine and Gaza, and the Order’s growing activities in Poland were the main topics of conversation between His Excellency Szymon Hołownia, Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, and Ambassador Niels Lorijn at a meeting held today at the Sejm and Senate complex in Warsaw.

Marshal Hołownia, who was joined by members of the Chancellery of the Sejm, including Deputy Secretary General Mr Michal Deskur, and Mrs Karolina Głowacka, Director of European Affairs and International Cooperation, expressed his appreciation for the works conducted by the Order of Malta in Poland and abroad.

The meeting highlighted the importance of a multilateral approach to address today’s global challenges, and to promote peace, security, human rights and respect for international law. Ambassador Lorijn expressed his deep gratitude for the support of the Polish authorities across the country’s political spectrum for the Order of Malta’s humanitarian and diplomatic mission, in the spirit of such shared principles and values.

At the end of the meeting, the Marshal of the Sejm encouraged Ambassador Lorijn to familiarise Polish members of parliament and guests visiting the Sejm with the Order of Malta, proposing to organise an exhibition in the Sejm’s main building on Wiejska Street.

The Sovereign Order of Malta is a Permanent Observer member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the global federation of national parliaments, and an Associate State member at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, an international organisation bringing together 34 member parliaments from the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.

2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and the Sovereign Order of Malta.
