December saw the launch of the 22nd edition of the “Opłatek Maltański” (Maltese Wafer) Christmas dinners organised annually by the Polish Association of the Order of Malta (“ZPKM”) under the honorary patronage of Ambassador Niels Lorijn.
The organisation of the so called “Opłatki” requires months of preparation involving hundreds of Order of Malta volunteers, with a view to share the dream of Christmas with thousands of disadvantaged adults and children.
From its humble beginnings in 2002, Opłatek Maltański has grown to become a nationwide annual event that this year welcomed nearly 4,000 guests across 28 Polish cities and towns, three towns in Ukraine, as well as London, Coventry and Nottingham.
Ambassador Lorijn attended the event at the Royal Castle in Warsaw together with H.Em. Cardinal Nycz, H.E. Jacek Tarnowski, President of ZPKM, and many members and volunteers of the Order in Poland.
