The XVI Maltese Charity Concert organised by the Polish Knights of Malta Foundation in Poznań and the Poznań Philharmonic took place on 24 October in the Auditorium of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, with the participation of H.E. Ambassador and Mrs Lorijn and H.E. Jacek Tarnowski, President of the Polish Association of the Order of Malta and his spouse Mrs Monika Tarnowska. Mr Jerzy Baehr, representing the Polish Association of Knights of Malta, welcomed the guests.
As in prior years, the “Malta Phoenix” award was presented before the start of the concert by Mr Andrzej Baehr, Director of the Foundation, on behalf of the Award Committee. This distinction is awarded to extraordinary individuals who, through their lives and work, exemplify Christian values. This year, the award was given to the Dominican Sisters from the “Mamy w habitach” Boys’ Home in Broniszewice.
The Concert was held under the high patronage of H.E. Mr Niels Lorijn, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Poland; H.E. Archbishop Zbigniew Zieliński, Metropolitan of Poznań; Mrs Agata Sobczyk, Voivode of Greater Poland; Mr. Marek Woźniak, Marshal of the Greater Poland Voivodeship; Mr Jan Grabkowski, Starost of Poznań; Mr Jacek Jaśkowiak, Mayor of Poznań; Prof. Dr. hab. Bogumiła Kaniewska, Rector of the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznań; and Prof. Dr. hab. Zbigniew Krasiński, Rector of the Karol Marcinkowski Medical University in Poznań.
Earlier in the day, many of the guests attended an event at the Archdiocesan Museum on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Maltese Welfare Home in Puszczykowo.
The musical portion of the concert, titled “Beethoven, Our Contemporary 2025,” opened with Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa’s Leonardo Fourth Overture, followed by Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93, and Johannes Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15. The soloist for the evening was the distinguished pianist Alexander Melnikov, and the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra was led by conductor Łukasz Borowicz.
Proceeds from this year’s Concert were donated to Maltese projects supporting people in need.
